iPhone 7 Plus Portrait Mode Action Shots

I wanted to test the speed of the depth effect in the iPhone 7 Plus, so I gave my daughter a hose and told her to let me have it.

Another benefit of a water resistant camera.

The brains in the camera lock on to a face rather quickly and track it through space, adjusting the focus and blur in real-time. I didn't worry about checking to make sure the depth effect was working before I clicked the shutter, I just followed my subject and tried to stay dry.

I was pretty impressed with the results.  When the depth effect failed it was just a normal photo, when it worked it was even better.  Occasionally the effect wouldn't work around all the edges and in the photo I liked best, the hand with the hose looked odd.

But if you look at a side-by-side comparison you see that the odd blur is really just caused by the motion in the photo and not the depth effect. The hose was moving very fast!

I considered cropping the hand out of the shot, but in the end I left it in because it was needed to tell the story. WATER FIGHT!
